Drone Strike Deep Inside Russia Injures Nine People

(MENAFN) Nine people were injured after a drone strike hit a residential building in the central Russian city of Ekaterinburg early Saturday, according to regional Governor Denis Pasler.

The governor said the incident occurred roughly 1,700 kilometers inside Russian territory and led to the evacuation of around 50 residents as a precaution.

One woman was taken to hospital, while others who sought medical attention were reported to have suffered mainly minor injuries, including smoke inhalation. None were said to be in serious condition, and medical assistance is ongoing.

Pasler noted that emergency services were deployed to the scene and that a “carpet” emergency response plan had been activated, with air defense systems operating in the region.

Temporary restrictions were also imposed on flights at the city’s Koltsovo Airport, according to Russia’s aviation authority.

He urged residents to stay calm, remain indoors, and avoid sharing images or videos related to drones or the aftermath of the attack.

According to statements from Russia’s Defense Ministry, a large number of Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across multiple regions, including Crimea, Tatarstan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Orel, Smolensk, Rostov, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Sverdlovsk, and Chelyabinsk, as well as over the Black Sea.

Russian officials have repeatedly claimed that such attacks target civilian areas, linking them to ongoing developments in the conflict.
