Ukrainian Drone Strikes Deep Into Russia, Injuring Nine

(MENAFN) A Ukrainian drone struck a residential building in the heart of Ekaterinburg early Saturday, wounding nine people in one of the deepest drone incursions recorded inside Russian territory — roughly 1,700 kilometers from the front lines.

Sverdlovsk regional Governor Denis Pasler confirmed the strike, disclosing that fifty residents were forced to evacuate the affected building as a precautionary measure. One woman required hospitalization, though Pasler emphasized that no casualties were life-threatening. The majority of those who sought medical attention were treated for mild smoke inhalation and remained under observation.

Emergency crews mobilized swiftly at the site. Pasler confirmed that a "carpet" emergency plan had been introduced in the region and that air defense systems were operating. He appealed to the public to stay indoors and exercise caution, while also reminding residents that filming or sharing images of drones or related damage is legally prohibited.

Russia's aviation authority moved to impose temporary flight restrictions on arrivals and departures at Koltsovo Airport, serving the Ural region's largest city.

Overnight, Russia's Defense Ministry announced that its forces had intercepted 127 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including Crimea, Tatarstan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Orel, Smolensk, Rostov, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and over the Black Sea.

Moscow has persistently maintained that Kyiv is deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure — a charge it frames as evidence that Ukraine is resorting to terrorist tactics against parties uninvolved in the broader conflict. Russian officials argue the strikes reflect Kyiv's inability to check Russian advances along the battlefield.

On the diplomatic front, the Kremlin signaled that U.S.-brokered negotiations with Ukraine have stalled, citing the escalating conflict in the Middle East as a contributing factor to the deadlock.
