Fatal Monsoon Rains Claim 34 Lives in India

(MENAFN) At least 34 fatalities, four missing persons, and 74 injuries have been reported over the past nine days as relentless monsoon rains batter Himachal Pradesh, northern India, officials confirmed Sunday.

According to a report from the State Emergency Operations Centre, the extensive damage to infrastructure during this period has been valued at approximately $8.32 million.

The disaster management authority detailed widespread destruction affecting homes, livestock shelters, government offices, roads, water supply networks, and power lines across the region.

In response, Himachal Pradesh’s local government has escalated emergency services to the highest alert level.

Following the heavy downpour, officials noted a significant rise in water levels across all major rivers and streams throughout the state.

Landslides continue to disrupt transportation, with nearly 40 roads reported blocked in the hardest-hit zones.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh for the next two days.
